Renouncing Step 1 - Questionnaire / Information for Determining Possible Loss of U.S. Citizenship
The first step in renouncing U.S. citizenship, aside from seriously considering the consequences and being sure it is what you want, is to request the following forms from the United States Department of State. Once you get these forms you will have to mail them back to the State Department and they will eventually send you a notice informing you of the date you will be able to formally renounce. The place of your renunciation is limited to U.S. consulates or embassies (outside of the United States). I renounced in Vancouver, Canada on March 1, 2001. At that time my name was still Kenneth Nichols.

'Reninciation of United States Citizenship Statement of Understanding Concerning the Consequences and Ramifications of Renunciation'
My original renunciation document; signed by myself - signed & stamped by US Cousul Steven Giegerich

The process is time consuming and full of contradictions. If you take the time to read through the statements and contracts I have signed in order to renounce you will likely find it as I did, completely absurd and blatantly hypocritical. The "Statement of Understanding concerning the consequences and ramifications of relinquishment or renunciation of US citizenship" (which is the second set of paperwork you would need to complete) would seem to lay out your right to self-determination very clearly. What I have found however is that the United States Government, along with most others I am sure, considers you their property, you are no more respected in your right of self-determination then you are in your right to due process of law, right to liberty, etc., etc. This fact hits at the heart of what is wrong with our world; until every human right is respected we will continue to tempt our seemingly inevitable self-destructive fate.

Below the thumbnails are my additional comments that could not fit on the original forms due to inadequate space. Unfortunately I was not allowed to copy my original forms.

6 .

a.  The answer is no because the Lawful (de jure) Government of Hawaii is now in its transitional form.  The office of immigration is now forming and full citizenship status for myself is expected by the early part of 2001.  Hopefully I will have been naturalized by the time of my formal meeting with the U.S. representatives at the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver.

b.  I have indeed sworn allegiance to the Lawful Government of Hawaii.  This was done when my application for citizenship with this nation was filed in October 1999.  This does not however mean that I have ill will towards the U.S. or its citizens.  I am simply unwilling to be a citizen (participant) in the ongoing injustice that the U.S. representatives appear intent on continuing.  In my opinion I am a true patriot standing firm with the virtues and beliefs of the founding fathers of the U.S.  Should the time come where the U.S. became consistent with its stated principles of freedom and democracy I would consider repatriating to the country of my birth.

d.  I served as the elections officer for the island of Oahu during the national elections for the offices of Noble and Representatives.  I was responsible for maintaining the integrity of the ballots and counting the vote’s cast.  Upon completion winners were announced and I submitted a written report of the election process and results.  My report concluded that all aspects of this democratic election were legal and lawful on every count.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Roy Nichols
